Tula Pink’s "100 Modern Quilt Blocks" and The Hudson Valley Quilt Modern Quilt Guild

Our Guild, The Hudson Valley Modern Quilt Guild is making making a guild quilt. I decided to make my block based on a pattern I found in Tula Pink’s book, 100 Modern Quilt Blocks.

These were the fabric colors I was given. We could make any pattern we wanted to.

The fabric in the background is deceiving. It look like brown here. In different light settings, or depending on what fabrics are next to it, the color seems to change. It is actually a very dark olive.

I decided to chose a pattern from this book I reviewed in an earlier post.

I chose this pattern, but changed it up.

The measurements in the book are for a 6″ X 6″ block. I needed to have a 12″ X 12″ finished block for the guild quilt. I decided to add in an orange print from my stash for some contrast. We were encouraged to add in fabrics from our stash.

And here is my finished block. The directions in Tula Pink’s book, 100 Modern Quilt Blocks, were easy to follow, and this block was quick to cut and assemble; about a half hour.

This is a great book for making fast, easy modern blocks. Highly recommend.
